George Kennedy was born in New York City on February 18, 1925. George Harris Kennedy was his father and a musician. Kennedy lost his father, George Harris Kennedy, at the age of four. Kennedy was left to be raised by Helen, a ballet dancer. Kennedy made his first stage appearance at age two. He graduated from Chaminade High School on Long Island, New York in 1943. He enlisted in World War II and joined the United States Army. He served 16 years and eventually rose to the rank of captain. He served under George S. Patton, and also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He reenlisted after the war was over, but was later discharged due to a back injury in the late 1950s.
Career
Kennedy began acting almost immediately after his military service. Kennedy’s first major screen role was that of a policeman in the TV sitcom “The Phil Silvers show.” As a technical advisor, he also worked on the program. In 1961, he was cast in “The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come” as his first movie role. He appeared in many films over the years including “Lonely Are the Brave,” “Charade,” and “Strait-Jacket.” He worked with prominent actors such as Kirk Douglas and Cary Grant.

The couple had three children together during their marriage.
Kennedy was passionate about aviation. Kennedy was a pilot and owned several planes including a Cessna 210, a Beechcraft Bonanza, and a Cessna 210.
Kennedy spent his final years in Eagle, Idaho. Kennedy died at an assisted living facility on February 28, 2016, from a heart attack. Kennedy was 91 years of age.
