J.R.D. Tata was a prominent Indian businessman who died on December 5, 2011. He was the Tata Group’s chairman and the largest Indian-born individual shareholder in Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Power, and Tata Chemicals. He was one of the most influential businessmen in India. He was also the founder of Tata Trusts. J.R.D. Tata was born on July 31, 1925, in Bombay, British India, to Ratan and Nusserwanji Tata. He attended the U.S. International School of Bombay for his primary education. He studied at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Bombay. In 1946, he joined Tata Steel in Bombay as a trainee. He later joined Tata Sons as a trainee and was promoted to supervisor in the purchasing department in 1949. He then served as a manager in the production department for a year. In 1950, he was promoted to section manager in the finance department, and then in 1952, he became a manager in the finance department. In 1954, he was appointed as a general manager in the finance department, and then in 1956, he was promoted to general manager in the finance department.
