Early Life
Summer Lyn Glau was born July 24, 1981, in San Antonio, Texas. Summer was raised with her mother Mari, a schoolteacher, and her father Mark (a general contractor). She has younger sisters Christie (and Kaitlin), and her ancestry includes German and Scots-Irish. Glau was a scholarship recipient who trained with a ballet company. She was homeschooled from her third-grade year to her senior year of high school because of her training schedule. After breaking her toe, she also learned the tango and flamenco dancing. Summer shared her story with “The A.V. Club”. Summer told “The A.V. Club” that she broke one of her toes in 2008. She also had tendonitis in both my heels and had already suffered from severe tendonitis. This caused me to lose all mobility in one of my feet. It was broken for four months. It was broken by me because I had just started an acting class and was reading a play. I then ran and leaped over the camel saddle in our living room and ran straight into the fireplace. Glau moved to Los Angeles in 2002 to pursue an acting career.
Career
Glau was a prima ballerina on “Angel” in 2002. Later that year, her co-creator Joss Woot cast her as Summer Tam in the TV series “Firefly”. The show also starred Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres.
